A native of Minnesota, Pamela Byers grew up with horses competing at 4-H and saddle club shows. She worked full-time in the horse industry after completing
a two year associate's degree in Light Horse Management at the University of Minnesota Technical College at Waseca (an agricultural branch of the University
of Minnesota). After working at large Quarter Horse and Appaloosa show horse facilities in four different mid-western states, she settled in Oklahoma to
pursue a degree in Business Management at the University of Oklahoma.
During her pursuit of a 4-year college degree, she became involved in the sport of eventing. She trained and competed her horse Poetry In Motion to the
training level winning her division at several horse trials, claiming 2nd place out of 25 horses at the 1994 Area V Training Level Championships, and has
ridden on the Area V Adult Team several times. While training for the next division, preliminary level, Poetry In Motion sustained a stifle injury that kept
her from furthering her eventing career. Since then Pamela has been training young horses for dressage and eventing. Being employed full time at the University
of Oklahoma as a program coordinator until the spring of 2004, she has not been able to dedicate as much time as she would like to her riding career. Now
working full time at the stable, she is focusing on furthering her students' riding careers, training horses, and continuing her own equestrian education.
She gives riding lessons on the weekends and during the week except on Mondays.
Always Continuing Her Equestrian Education
Pamela has taken regular riding instruction from Sherry Guess, Dynah Korhummel, Sarah Hall, Melonie Kessler, Joan Harris, Louise Waring, and Caroline Tawes.
She has cliniced with Lilo Fore, Lucinda Green, Jim Wofford, Kerri Millikin, John Staples, Kerstin Mackey, Pam Fowler Grace and Noreen Corlett. She frequently
audits clinics as well. Her joy for riding stems from obtaining a constant stream of equestrian knowledge.
Equestrian Organization Involvement
Pamela is very involved in state and local equestrian organizations. She was instrumental in helping form the The Oklahoma Combined Training Association (OCTA). This organization has helped to nurture the sport of eventing
within the state of Oklahoma. Pamela has served as Treasurer, Vice President, President and a general board member of OKE. Having a love for dressage, she
also belongs to the Oklahoma Dressage Society (ODS) and is a charter member of the South Canadian River Chapter of ODS and of the Spirit of the Sport Chapter
of ODS.
